You're looking at a proper Highland peak that doesn't announce itself loudly - no visitor centre, no cafe, just a straightforward hill walk from Taynuilt up to just under 700 metres. The ascent is steep enough to earn your legs a drink at the bottom, but the reward is a clean line of view down Loch Awe and into the surrounding glens. On a clear day, which isn't guaranteed in Argyll, the sight of the water reflecting the slopes makes the slog worthwhile.

This one's for walkers who like a bit of graft without needing ropes. Families with older kids can manage it in two to three hours, though the scramble near the top requires a head for heights. The path starts near Taynuilt and isn't signed to death - you need to know where you're going, which sorts out the casual strollers. Most people tackle it early to beat the cloud that rolls in by afternoon.

Stay at Loch Awe Camping Pods just down the road if you want a base that actually feels part of the landscape rather than stuck beside it. The walk itself is free, naturally. Go in the warmer months when the midges aren't hunting in packs. If weather turns wet, which it often does in these parts, the path becomes a proper bog - wellies mandatory. Pair it with a paddle on the loch or a drive to Oban if you're killing a full day.
