Tom Allt Fine

Tom Allt Fine rises above Fort William with that particular Scottish Highland drama - steep, unforgiving, but rewards you properly if you're willing to graft. It's a real walkers' peak, not something you'll idle around for long, but the vistas across Glen Nevis and toward Ben Nevis itself make the effort count.

The ascent isn't technical, just relentless. Most people tackle it as a half-day outing from one of the nearby holiday parks - Ben Nevis Holiday Park sits barely a mile away, making it convenient for caravan folk wanting to stretch their legs. The views pay off once you're up there: Ben Nevis dominates the landscape to the east, and on a clear day you're looking across proper mountain terrain. Bring good boots and water. Wind can be fierce at the summit.

This isn't a casual stroll or a destination for young kids who tire easily. But if you're staying at Glen Nevis Caravan & Camping Park or Linnhe Lochside Holidays and you've got an afternoon free, it's well worth the walk. Two to three hours round trip, depending on fitness. The peak itself is modest in height compared to Ben Nevis, but the position makes it feel significant - you're standing somewhere that matters in the landscape.

Go early in the day if possible. Cloud rolls in fast in the Highlands, and you want those views before the weather turns. Hard work, but genuine.
