Tideford Playpark

The Looe River valley near Widegates has a proper gem in Tideford Playpark, where woodland trails wind through a genuine nature reserve rather than a manicured park. It's the kind of place where kids actually get muddy - there's a working stream, fallen logs to balance on, and enough undergrowth to feel like proper exploring rather than a circuit around a playground. The trails are short enough that younger children won't complain, but there's enough variety - water features, different terrain, open glades - to keep them engaged for a good couple of hours if you're not rushed.

The reserve sits inland from the coastal holiday parks scattered around the Looe area, making it perfect for a rainy afternoon when the beaches aren't tempting. Lydcott Glamping is closest at just 3.6 miles away, while Waterside at Tregoad Holiday Park and the Looe Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite are both within easy striking distance. It's the sort of stop that breaks up a longer holiday nicely - not a full day's commitment, but far more interesting than an indoor soft play.

I'd allow two to three hours depending on how much dawdling happens, and bring wellies unless you've had a really dry spell. The woodland keeps things cool even in summer, which is actually a mercy down here. Nature reserve types and families with primary-school-aged kids will get the most from it; it's less appealing if you're after formal facilities or structured activities.
