Thorn Tree Covert

Walk into Thorn Tree Covert and you're immediately in proper woodland - tall trees, dappled light, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a forest patch near Market Rasen that works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Into the Wild Glamping or Lindsey Trail Touring Park and need to stretch your legs without heading miles away.

The covert itself isn't massive, but that's rather the point. You get a genuine woodland walk without the tourist crush of bigger attractions. There are decent paths through, and it's the sort of spot where you might spot deer if you're lucky, or at least hear plenty of birdsong. Families with young kids will manage fine here - nothing steep or treacherous, just a pleasant wander amongst the trees. Older children who actually like walking rather than theme parks will probably enjoy it more.

Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you want to properly explore rather than just dash through. Early morning is best if you want any chance of wildlife. The Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape sits just five miles away, so you could link this with broader walking plans in the area without it feeling like a detour.

It's free to access and works as a proper break from caravan life - real trees, fresh air, no entry fees to grumble about. Not earth-shattering, but it does what it says on the tin.
