The White Horse Inn

Inside, there's still a functioning pub with decent ales and the sort of low ceilings that make you duck. The real appeal here isn't a tourist attraction in the formal sense - there are no guided tours or exhibition boards - it's the chance to sit where people have been sitting for 500 years and experience an actual living piece of local history. If you're hiking around Cambridgeshire Lakes just five miles south, this is an easy afternoon detour.

Families with older children will get something from it, but younger kids might find it a bit static. History buffs and architecture enthusiasts will spend longer studying the timber work and wondering about previous incarnations. Worth a pint and a pause, rather than a scheduled visit.
