The Wedge

The Wedge is a small but genuine patch of ancient woodland, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think and spot the occasional deer if you're lucky.

It's straightforward walking territory. Nothing dramatic or challenging - just good forest floor paths that meander through decent-sized trees. Most people spend anything from thirty minutes to an hour here depending on how much you fancy exploring. The light filtering through the canopy is genuinely lovely, especially on an autumn morning when there are leaves everywhere.

If you're staying at one of the local parks - Malmesbury Glamping at Whychurch Farm or Burton Hill Caravan & Camping Park are both very close - this works as a quick morning walk before heading into Malmesbury town itself. It's not going to blow anyone's mind, but it's the sort of low-key addition that stops a forest walk from feeling like something you've done a thousand times before.

Historically-minded types might appreciate knowing this is ancient woodland, which counts for something. Families with young children will get a solid thirty minutes out of it, though there's nothing particularly interactive happening. Serious walkers will find it bit compact for what it is, but it makes a decent leg-stretch between the parks and proper rambling territory elsewhere in Wiltshire.
