About The Warren
This is walker's country through and through. The summit itself is fairly exposed moorland, so on a clear day you get those long sight lines across Snowdonia and the Shropshire hills. Bring a map or download the route beforehand - while the peak is marked, navigation isn't always obvious in bad weather. Allow a couple of hours return from the nearest parking, depending on your pace and how many times you stop to take photos.
Not a spot for young kids who can't manage rough ground, but if your children have done a few decent walks already, they'll manage fine. On a blustery afternoon it can feel properly wild, which some will find exhilarating and others a bit grim. Summer visits are more forgiving than winter attempts.
Welshpool sits just four miles away, making this a natural fit for a stay at Tanat Holiday Park or Sweeney Farm Glamping. Pop it into a longer walking day combining nearby peaks, or treat it as a half-day excursion while based in the area. Either way, bring waterproofs - this is Mid Wales, after all.
