The Walks Parkour Training Facility

The Walks is a sprawling nature reserve on the edge of King's Lynn, where the River Ouse winds through proper Norfolk countryside. It's not your typical parkour facility - the name refers to the old medieval earthworks that crisscross the site, and locals have been using these pathways for centuries. You'll find yourself walking along raised banks between reed beds and open water, with decent sightlines across the wetland if the light's right.

The reserve works best for people who actually enjoy walking rather than those after adrenaline. Families with primary-age kids will get a couple of hours out of it, though the paths can be muddy and there's not much in the way of dramatic wildlife spotting unless you're into birds. Serious birdwatchers should come at dawn or dusk - winter brings wigeon and pintail if you're patient. The pathways themselves are the draw - they've got real character, these old fortifications, and you're walking where medieval residents would have walked.

Getting there from King's Lynn Caravan & Camping Park takes about ten minutes by car or a decent walk if you fancy it. Allow an hour for a gentle loop, longer if you're the contemplative type or have proper binoculars. There's no visitor facility to speak of, so bring water and wear boots - the ground stays damp year-round. Best visited on a clearer day when you can actually see across the reserve; on murky afternoons it feels a bit claustrophobic among the reeds.
