The Sisters

Three wooded hills rising sharply from the Gloucestershire landscape - that's The Sisters, and they're worth seeking out if you're camping nearby. The walk up is proper steep, I won't lie, but the effort pays off once you're among the beech and oak canopy with views across the Cotswolds sprawling out below.

It's a woodland rather than a manicured attraction. There's no visitor centre, no café, no marked trails with interpretive boards - just forest floor, trees, and the sound of wind in branches. You can wander the three peaks in an hour or so, though most people take longer poking about, scrambling up bits, finding quiet spots to sit. Kids enjoy the scrambling aspect more than extended walking; if your crew needs a full afternoon activity, this alone won't cut it.

Free to visit and open whenever you fancy. The terrain is rough underfoot - proper footwear essential, especially after rain. Spring's lovely here with bluebells, though any season works if you're after a genuine woodland experience without the crowds.

Geographically it slots perfectly between Mayfield Park (just a mile away) and Cirencester itself. If you're based at either caravan site and want to stretch your legs on an afternoon, The Sisters beats a shopping trip to Cirencester town. Real walker territory, though - don't expect playground facilities or easy access. The appeal is simple: trees, hills, and an old-school forest experience without the theatre.
