The Pond

The Pond sits just inland from Seaton, a proper little freshwater lake that feels worlds away from the seaside bustle. It's exactly what it says on the tin - a body of water fringed with reeds and backed by Devon countryside. You won't find manicured paths or visitor facilities here; this is the sort of place you stumble upon and think "right, that's lovely".

The main draw is watching for wildlife. Dragonflies in summer, various water birds year-round, and if you're patient you might spot something more interesting among the vegetation. It's ideal for a quiet walk rather than a destination in itself - twenty minutes does it unless you're a serious twitcher. Families with young children might find it a touch underwhelming; there's not much to do except look and listen. But walkers after some peace, or anyone needing a break from the coast, will find it genuinely restful.

Free to visit, naturally. The best time is late spring through early autumn when the wildlife is most active. Winter's fine too if you don't mind the wind.

If you're staying at Beer Head Holiday Park just up the road, it's worth the short detour. Works well as a morning stroll before heading to Seaton's pebble beach or the coastal path. Don't expect dramatic views or Instagram moments - just go if you need somewhere quiet to breathe.
