The Paw Park Broxburn

The Paw Park in Broxburn is a straightforward dog-friendly space just outside Newbridge - nothing fancy, but genuinely useful if you're touring the area with a pooch. It's a dedicated off-lead area where dogs can actually run about without a lead, which is rarer than you'd think in built-up parts of Edinburgh and the Lowlands.

The setup is fairly basic: fenced-in ground, some grass, room for proper exercise. You won't find manicured gardens or themed play zones - this is functional, honest dog space. That's exactly why families with energetic dogs rate it. You're looking at twenty to forty minutes here, depending on how knackered your dog gets.

Broxburn itself is small, so you're really using this as a proper break point if you're staying nearby - Linwater Caravan Park is barely two miles away, making it an obvious stop if you're based there. Works well mid-morning or late afternoon when the place is quieter and your dog's got room to breathe. During peak times it can get rammed with other dogs, which some manage better than others.

It's free, as far as we could tell, though facilities are minimal - bin for waste, that's about it. Don't expect cafes or seating. Winter mornings here are bleak and muddy. Summer's more pleasant. Worth the detour if you've got a dog that needs a proper run. If you're visiting without a four-legged friend, you'll find more interesting things elsewhere.
