The New Lawn Stadium

The New Lawn Stadium is home to Forest Green Rovers, and it's genuinely one of the more interesting football grounds you'll visit in the south-west. Built in 2006, it's a proper modern setup with a capacity of around 5,100 - intimate enough that you feel close to the action, but well-maintained and welcoming. The club itself has an unusual angle: they're vegan-friendly, which extends to the stadium catering. It's a nice touch that sets them apart from the usual match-day menu.

If you're a football fan, catching a game here during the season is worth your time. The atmosphere's friendly rather than intimidating, and the stadium sits on the edge of Stroud with decent facilities. Matchdays are the obvious draw, though you can sometimes arrange ground tours during the week if you ring ahead. Allow a couple of hours for the full experience - getting there, a pint before kick-off, the match itself.

For families staying nearby, it depends on your kids' interest in football. A younger child might find 90 minutes tedious; teenagers who play or follow the sport will likely enjoy it. The location is handy - you're only a short drive from Tobacconist Farm Campsite and Middle Lypiatt Glamping, both excellent bases. Stroud itself is worth exploring before or after, with decent pubs and shops. It's not a destination in itself, but if you're already holidaying in the area and fancy an afternoon of live sport, it's a solid option.
