The Nebit

The Nebit sits at 1,899 feet, a proper little cone of a hill that pokes up from the Clackmannanshire landscape like someone's left a molars model on the dining table. From Stirling, it's not far at all - you're looking at less than an hour's drive to get yourself positioned for the walk. The ascent is straightforward, nothing that'll have you gasping for air, and on a clear day the views back towards the Forth Valley and beyond are genuinely worth the effort. You'll see for miles.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a sit-down-and-admire sort of thing - you come here to move your legs and feel the wind. An hour and a half covers it comfortably, there and back, though you might want longer if the weather's playing ball and you fancy a rest at the top with a flask. Families with kids who can manage a gentle hill will be fine, though younger ones might find it a touch dull without the drama of something like Ben Ledi nearby.

If you're based at Witches Craig or Highland Gateway - both excellent spots for a proper Lowlands break - the Nebit works as a morning walk before you potter off elsewhere. It's accessible in a way that bigger peaks aren't, which makes it useful for filling a day without committing to a full expedition. No facilities up there, so bring what you need. Free to visit, obviously - it's a hill.
