The Grove Golf Club

The Grove is a proper golf course that sits between Bridgend and Porthcawl, so it's well-placed if you're basing yourself at Trecco Bay Holiday Park. The course demands respect - it's not a walk around the park, this is the real thing with decent length and enough hazards to keep you honest.

Golfers will spend a solid four hours here, maybe four and a half if you're not exactly blazing round. The fairways are well-maintained and the rough punishes you for wandering off line. You'll need to be comfortable with your swing before you book on; it's not beginner-friendly, but intermediate players and upwards will find it a proper test.

Non-golfers, fair warning: you won't find much to do while your partner's teeing off. This is a working golf club, not a resort experience with a spa and restaurant (though most courses do have a clubhouse). If you're staying at Trecco Bay with a mix of golfers and non-golfers in the party, you might want to plan something else for the non-playing members - Porthcawl itself has a decent beach and a couple of arcades to keep people occupied.
