The Great Field Poundbury

The Great Field at Poundbury is a proper working nature reserve just outside Upwey, where you can actually watch conservation in action rather than just wandering round looking at things. The appeal is straightforward: this is a place for people who care about what's living there, not just the views.

Walkers get the most from it. The terrain is manageable, mostly level with clear paths, and you're looking at a couple of hours maximum depending on how thoroughly you want to explore. Spring and early summer are best - the wildflowers are genuinely worth timing a visit around, and you'll actually see something of the bird life that makes reserves like this worthwhile.
