About The Gorse
Walking through here, you'll find mixed woodland with decent-sized conifers and broadleaves. The paths wind through without too much fanfare, and there are enough trails to keep you occupied for an hour or two depending on how far you fancy venturing. It's the sort of place where families with kids can let them burn off energy without worrying constantly about traffic, and serious walkers won't feel patronised by the route-marking.
There's no visitor centre or fancy facilities, which is rather the point. Free to access, as far as we could tell, and you can turn up whenever suits. Early morning or late afternoon feels best - fewer people and better light filtering through the canopy.
For a holiday at Northfield Farm or Lakeview just down the road, The Gorse works well as a proper stretch of the legs rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Moon Valley Glamping Retreat further out, it's worth combining with other attractions in the area, but as a standalone afternoon it's decent enough. Not spectacular, but solid woodland walking that justifies the trip if you're already based nearby.
