The gallery rotates shows fairly regularly, so there's a reason to go back. Paintings, sculpture, ceramics, printwork - the quality varies as it does in any independent space, but there's a genuine curatorial eye at play. If you're the type who gets bored by white-walled corporate galleries, this hits differently. Families with older kids and art students will find plenty to talk about; younger children might manage twenty minutes before restlessness sets in.

Admission is free, which is rare enough to mention. Allow thirty to forty minutes for a proper look, longer if you're chatty with the staff. Street itself is worth an hour or two - the Shoe Museum is genuinely brilliant, and Clark's Factory Shop if you're after a bargain.

Camped at Bobsfield, just over a mile away? It's an easy walk into town. The glamping at Orchard Farm is further out but still manageable as a morning stop before heading elsewhere. Build it into a lazy morning with coffee rather than treating it as a destination in itself. It works best that way.
