The Firs

The Firs is a proper Norfolk woodland just east of Hunstanton - the sort of place locals know well but visitors tend to miss. It's a straightforward forest walk through mixed trees, nothing dramatic, but genuinely peaceful if you time it right. On a weekday morning you'll have the place largely to yourself, which is half the appeal.

The woodland itself is manageable on foot, with enough paths to keep things interesting without requiring proper hiking boots or OS map skills. Kids can burn off energy without parents fretting about steep drops or remote terrain. The ground can be muddy after rain, so decent footwear makes sense. Allow an hour to ninety minutes to actually enjoy it rather than rush through.

It works best as a morning outing before heading into Hunstanton proper for lunch or the seafront. If you're staying at Wild Luxury - The Norfolk Glamping Company just up the road, you could easily slip away from the site for a woodland walk without much faffing about. Searles Leisure Resort and Deepdale Camping are also close enough that The Firs makes a decent half-day plan alongside other local bits.

Worth a visit? If you're the type who genuinely enjoys a quiet forest walk, yes. If you're after something with more structure or obvious attractions - visitor centre, playground, that sort of thing - you'll find The Firs a bit thin. It's honest woodland, nothing more, which some will find exactly what they need and others will find a touch ordinary.
