The Dance Factory

The Dance Factory sits just outside Kettering and is one of those places that surprises you if you're not expecting it. It's a working arts centre where dance actually happens - classes, rehearsals, performances - rather than a museum where you watch things happen behind glass. The space itself is modern and functional, with studios where you can catch everything from ballet to contemporary work, depending on what's on.

You'll get the most out of it if you're either keen on dance yourself or dragging kids who need tiring out. There's a genuine community feel here, and staff tend to be genuinely helpful about what's on during your visit. The performances vary wildly by season, so it's worth checking ahead - sometimes you'll find proper evening shows, other times just daytime classes or workshops. It's free to walk around and have a look at what's happening, though actual classes or shows will have a charge.

Allow an hour if you're just poking about, longer if you're catching a performance. If you're staying at Northfield Farm or Lakeview Caravan Park nearby, it's an easy drive in on an evening when the weather's turned. It won't be the highlight of your park holiday - this is more a rainy-Tuesday sort of spot - but if dance is your thing, or you've got teenagers who might surprise you with their interest, it's well worth the short trip from your caravan.
