The Courthill Stone

The Courthill Stone stands alone on a stretch of moorland just outside Blairgowrie, a weathered slab of rock that's been marking this landscape for centuries. It's not immediately obvious why it matters - there's no visitor centre, no interpretive boards, just the stone itself and the views across Perthshire rolling away in all directions.

What you're looking at is a standing stone with genuine Bronze Age credentials, though the exact purpose remains properly mysterious. That's actually part of its appeal. There's no tourism machinery here, no queue, no gift shop selling overpriced fridge magnets. You turn up, you walk to it, you stand there and think about the people who raised it thousands of years ago.

It's a short walk from the roadside - nothing strenuous, though the moorland can be boggy depending on weather. Allow twenty minutes there and back, maybe longer if you want to sit with it for a bit and take photographs. The best light is late afternoon when the stone throws a proper shadow across the ground.

History types will find it genuinely interesting; walkers often pass through on longer moorland routes. Families with restless young children might find it underwhelming - there's not much to do once you've seen it. That said, it's a logical stop if you're staying at Blairgowrie Holiday Park or Corriefodly Holiday Park and want to break up a day between bigger attractions.
