The Egyptian mummies pull crowds like nothing else - there's something about standing in front of a 3,000-year-old body that makes your phone feel ridiculous. The Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, the Sutton Hoo treasures - they're all genuinely remarkable objects, not replicas. History nerds and museum types will lose entire afternoons. Kids? They'll love the mummies and the Egyptian stuff for a solid hour, maybe ninety minutes if they're patient types.

Admission is free, which is brilliant, though donations keep the place running. You can dip in for a couple of hours or make it a full day. Mornings are calmer than afternoons, and weekday visits beat weekends hands down.
