Saturday mornings only, between 9am and 1pm, you can slip into The Boutique Distillery just outside Gloucester and watch how proper spirits get made. It's a small operation - the kind where you'll actually meet the people doing the work rather than shuffle through some corporate visitor centre. You get to see the stills, smell the botanicals, and understand why craft distilling has become such a thing in the past decade.

The experience works best for adults with a genuine interest in how alcohol gets produced. If you're expecting a boozy theme park, dial back your expectations - this is genuinely educational. Tours and tastings happen, though it's worth checking their website first since Saturday-only hours are pretty restrictive. Admission details aren't entirely clear online, so ring ahead or check in advance.

Geographically it slots nicely into a Gloucestershire break. None of the nearby caravan parks - The Glamping Orchard, Baldwin's Brook, Apple Tree Park, or Apple Orchard - are particularly close to being outstanding, but they're all within striking distance if you're basing yourself in the area. It works as a half-morning activity before heading into Gloucester proper or moving on to Forest of Dean.

Realistic time allowance is two to three hours maximum.
