The Belvedere

A steep climb up a grassy slope rewards you with proper views across the Nene Valley - that's the whole appeal of The Belvedere, and it delivers without fussing about it. This isn't a building or a formal viewpoint with benches and plaques. It's a raised vantage point near Milton Keynes where the landscape opens up and you can see for miles if the weather plays ball.

Walkers will get the most from it. The climb itself is the point - nothing too gruelling, but enough to earn the vista. Families with young kids might find it a bit of a slog for limited reward, especially if mist rolls in. Go on a clear day or don't bother.

You'll want to allow 20 minutes or so to walk up and spend time taking in the view. It's free, obviously. Best visited as part of a longer walk through the valley rather than a standalone trip. If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Cosgrove Park is closest at 4.5 miles away - it makes a decent morning outing to stretch your legs. The Old Dairy Farm Camping, which has a solid 4.6 rating, is also within easy reach at 5.5 miles.

This works well if you're doing a walking holiday in the area. Don't expect facilities or crowds. Just a hill, a view, and fresh air. Proper old-school stuff.
