The Belfry sits just outside Atherstone in Warwickshire, a proper championship-level golf course that's hosted European Tour events and the odd Ryder Cup practice round. Three courses to choose from - the Derby, the Brabazon, and the PGA - so whether you're a single-digit handicapper or someone who loses more balls than they hit, there's a layout that'll suit.

The Brabazon is the headline act, all parkland drama with water hazards that punish a wayward shot. The other two are slightly friendlier but no gimmes. Walking around here, you get the sense of a place that takes itself seriously - manicured fairways, proper clubhouse facilities, the works. It's not a casual knock-about venue.

Golfers will get a full day out of this. Non-golfers? You'll be twiddling your thumbs in the bar. The course sits within spitting distance of Nightingales Rustic Camping if you're planning a longer Midlands trip, though you'll want to book a round in advance rather than rocking up on the day. Green fees aren't cheap - expect to pay proper money - but the conditioning and routing justify it. Worth it if golf's your thing. If it isn't, keep driving.
