Ten Acre Field lives up to its name - a proper slice of Suffolk countryside east of Bury Saint Edmunds where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a nature reserve, the sort of place where the main event is simply walking through open grassland and woodland without seeing another soul for hours. You could combine it with a wander round the town's abbey ruins or a proper exploration of West Stow Country Park, which has considerably more facilities.

Timing-wise, early morning is genuinely better here - fewer people, more wildlife activity, and the light's usually decent for photography. Spring and autumn are your sweet spots, though it's decent year-round if you don't mind mud. We'd allow two to three hours to do it properly without rushing. Access details are thin on the ground, so check locally before heading out, but the location suggests it's reasonably straightforward to find from Bury.
