Tammieteeh Tumulus

A Bronze Age burial mound rising from the Perthshire landscape, Tammieteeh Tumulus sits quietly a few miles outside Perth - the sort of place you'd walk straight past if you didn't know what you were looking at. But once you do know, it's rather compelling: this is where someone important was laid to rest thousands of years ago, and the mound itself remains largely intact.

The site itself is modest. You're looking at an earthen rise in the ground, nothing flashy, but that's precisely what makes it work for archaeology types and anyone interested in how our landscape has been shaped by people long gone. There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of - no cafe, no interpretive boards, no entry fee that I'm aware of. You simply turn up and have a look. It's the sort of place that rewards a bit of research beforehand; knowing what you're standing on transforms the experience from "odd lump of earth" to "actual Iron Age monument."

Worth a visit if you're camping at Scone or Newmill Farm, both within a couple of miles - though I'd combine it with proper walking rather than making a special trip just for this. The landscape around Perth is pleasant enough for a ramble, and having a tumulus to visit gives the walk a genuine purpose. Allow thirty minutes, maybe an hour if you're really into Bronze Age burial practices. Not one for restless kids, but if someone in your group enjoys archaeology or local history, they'll appreciate the authenticity of it - no visitor experience, just genuine heritage.
