The banks are accessible enough that you're not fighting through brambles, though bring waterproofs because it can get boggy. Worth allowing a couple of hours if you're actually using it as a proper stop rather than just a quick look-in. Families might find an hour enough unless the children are properly keen on bird-watching or you're making it part of a longer walk. If you're based at California Chalet & Touring Park a few miles away, this is an easy afternoon outing - close enough that you won't spend half your time driving. Best visited when the weather's decent, obviously, since there's not much shelter round here. Off-season is quieter, which suits some people fine.
