Sunny Hill

The walk up to Sunny Hill rewards you with proper views across Cardigan Bay and back toward Aberystwyth. It's not a scramble - more a steady pull through moorland that takes the best part of an hour depending on fitness and which route you pick from town. The summit itself is modest in height but stands high enough to make the effort worthwhile, especially on a clear day when you can see right across to the Preseli Hills inland.

This is walker territory, mainly. Families with young kids might find the ascent tedious unless they're used to hills, though older children who enjoy being outdoors will get on fine. History buffs won't find much of archaeological note up here, but it's the sort of vantage point that matters to the landscape - you understand why people settled in Aberystwyth below rather than at altitude.

Allow two hours minimum for the round trip including time to sit and take in the view. Spring and autumn are probably best - summer can be muggy, and winter often means cloud cover that defeats the purpose. The walk is free, obviously, and you can start directly from Aberystwyth, which makes it convenient if you're staying at Silver Fern Glamping just south of town or anywhere in the Aberystwyth Holiday Village catchment. Combine it with a afternoon exploring the town's seafront or the castle ruins if you want a fuller day. Worth doing once if you're in the area; don't expect anything spectacular, but the effort-to-reward ratio is sound.
