Stenton Church

The small kirk sits alone in open countryside between Dunbar and the coast, and it's the sort of place you only find if you're properly exploring East Lothian rather than just passing through. Stenton Church dates back to the 12th century, though what you see now is largely medieval with later additions - the kind of solid, no-nonsense Scottish church that's weathered centuries without fuss.

Inside, it's genuinely quiet. Stone walls, the smell of old wood and time, maybe a few memorials if you're into reading gravestones. The churchyard itself is worth a walk around, overgrown in that charming way that suggests nobody's been rushed here in decades. On a clear day the views across the fields are proper lovely.

It's not a major attraction - you'll spend twenty minutes here, not two hours. But if you're staying at Belhaven Bay Caravan Park or anywhere in that corner of East Lothian, and you fancy a gentle countryside wander with some actual history attached, it ticks the box. Works well as part of a wider walk exploring the quieter villages around Dunbar. History enthusiasts and photographers will get more from it than kids, if we're honest. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but don't rearrange your itinerary for it. The real draw around here is the coast and the wider landscape rather than this one building, but it's a proper little pocket of calm.
