Stùc Odhar

The walk up Stùc Odhar isn't what you'd call easy, but it rewards you with views across the Trossachs that make the huffing and puffing worthwhile. From Lochearnhead, you're looking at a proper hill walk rather than a gentle stroll - the ascent is relentless and the path can be boggy in places, so decent boots are non-negotiable.

What makes it compelling is the isolation. Unlike Ben Vorlich across the way, Stùc Odhar doesn't pull the crowds, which means you get the ridge to yourself on most days. The summit sits at 901 metres and gives you sweeping views over Loch Earn and the surrounding peaks. On a clear day - and you'll want to wait for one - it's genuinely stunning.

This is a walk for people who actually enjoy walking, not casual strollers. Budget three to four hours for the round trip from the car park at Lochearnhead. Families with teenagers keen on the hills will manage it fine. Young children will find it a slog. The climb is steep enough that you'll be working for your views, and there's no cafe or facilities at the top, so bring water and snacks.

If you're based at Callander Woods or Keltie Bridge, both within striking distance, Stùc Odhar pairs well with easier walks in the area. It's the sort of hill that separates the committed walkers from the Instagram-spot hunters. Entirely worth the detour if you're one of the former.
