Statue of Samson and the Philistine

The Statue of Samson and the Philistine is an enormous bronze sculpture that dominates the landscape near Peterborough. Created by Michael Ayrton in 1984, it depicts the biblical wrestling match frozen in time - two figures locked in combat, muscles straining, a moment of raw physical struggle captured in metal. It's visceral stuff, and you can walk right around it to catch the drama from every angle.

This isn't a gallery in the traditional sense with walls and ticket desks. It's an outdoor sculpture you can visit freely whenever you fancy, which is rather brilliant.
