Station Holt

Station Holt is a proper woodland walk just inland from Skegness, and it's the sort of place that rewards you without making a fuss about it. The forest floor is thick with pine needles, the air smells like it should, and there's enough space to actually breathe - which matters when you've just come from the seafront crowds.

It's best for walkers rather than families with small children, though older kids who can manage a decent hike will find it decent enough. There are paths threading through the trees, and on a clear day you get genuine woodland peace rather than the manufactured kind. Don't expect dramatic vistas or viewpoints - this is about the walk itself, the quiet, the way light filters through the canopy.

If you're staying at The Nurseries Caravan Site nearby, it's well worth the short drive. You could easily spend two hours here without rushing, maybe longer if you're the type who dawdles and looks at things. There's no admission charge as far as I can tell - it's just a forest you walk into.

The main thing to know is that it's not a destination in itself. It's what you do on a decent afternoon when you want to escape Skegness proper but don't want to venture too far. Muddy shoes are probable, so don't wear your good ones. Come prepared for weather, bring water, and don't expect much in the way of facilities. That's rather the point.
