Stantonbury Leisure Centre

The leisure centre at Stantonbury sits on the edge of Milton Keynes - a proper modern facility with indoor pools that actually get used by locals rather than sitting half-empty like some leisure centres you'll find dotted around the Midlands. There's a main pool for lap swimming, a shallower teaching pool, and usually a fun pool with a slide that keeps younger kids occupied for a good hour or so. The water temperature is maintained decently, and the changing facilities are clean enough, though nowhere fancy.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly if you're camped at Gullivers or Adventurer's Village - both within a couple of miles - and the weather's turned proper miserable. You're not going to build a holiday around it, but as a wet-day backup when you've got families needing to burn off energy, it does the job. Allow two to three hours if you've got young swimmers; they'll get tired, you'll get a bit of peace, everyone wins. Older kids and serious swimmers might find it a touch basic compared to some competition pools, but for a casual splash about it's fine.

It's the kind of place that's genuinely useful rather than thrilling, which is exactly what you need when you're mid-camping trip and someone needs rescuing from boredom.
