About Stanley Bridge
You can view it from the road or, better yet, take the riverside walk from Carnforth's low level station. The walk is straightforward and takes about an hour return - nice woodland sections and the gorge itself is lovely. Walking underneath the viaduct looking up is where the engineering really hits home. It's all stone and iron in a way that modern builds just aren't.
This works well if you're staying at Primrose Glamping Pods - it's only a short drive away. Bring binoculars if you're a train spotter. The Settle-Carlisle line is famous for its diesel heritage trains, so you might catch something special, particularly on weekends. If you're not bothered about railways, the walk is still worth doing for the gorge setting alone - proper peaceful spot.
Timing-wise, allow a couple of hours including the walk. It's free to view, and there's a cafe at Carnforth station if you fancy a brew beforehand.
