St Swithun Church, Leadenham

The church sits right in the middle of Leadenham village, about seven miles south of Lincoln, and it's one of those places that stops you in your tracks. St Swithun's is essentially a monument to perpendicular Gothic architecture at its most confident - all soaring windows, elaborate stonework, and a tower that announces itself across the flat Lincolnshire landscape like it's got something to prove.

Inside, it's genuinely impressive. The nave's wide and airy, the roof work is intricate, and there's proper medieval craftsmanship everywhere you look. You'll spot brasses, some decent stained glass, and the kind of detail that rewards actually standing still for five minutes instead of just popping your head round the door.

It's the sort of church that appeals to architecture enthusiasts and history types far more than casual visitors - if you're after a quick Instagram shot, you'll be disappointed. Allow half an hour minimum to do it justice, longer if you're into the finer points of medieval masonry. The village itself is quiet and compact, so combining a church visit with a wander round Leadenham and a pint somewhere makes for a proper morning out.

If you're based at Spire View Meadow glamping just down the road, this is easily walkable on a decent day. It fills a gap nicely between bigger attractions further afield - worth the detour if you're already exploring the Lincoln area, rather less compelling if you're driving specifically from elsewhere.
