St Saviour's Point

The walk down to St Saviour's Point from Polruan is steep enough to make your calves complain, but the payoff is genuine. You're standing on a dramatic headland where the Fowey estuary opens out to the sea, and on a clear day the view stretches across to Fowey on the opposite bank and beyond to the open coast. It's the sort of spot where you understand why people moved to Cornwall.

There's not much to "do" here in the traditional sense - it's a viewpoint, pure and simple. The appeal is the vantage point itself: high cliffs, proper sea air, and the kind of light that makes photographers fidget with their cameras for hours. Bring binoculars if you're into birdwatching; the gulls and cormorants use these rocks extensively. Most visitors allow 30 minutes to an hour, though you could easily sit and read for longer if the weather's decent.

Walkers will rate this highly. It's accessible from Polruan village via a well-trodden path, though the gradient is no joke - not suitable for very young children or anyone with mobility issues. History buffs might appreciate that you're looking at one of Cornwall's busiest working harbours, though there's limited interpretation on site.

Staying at Tremeer Farm or Par Sands puts you within easy reach, and it fits neatly into a broader coastal walk. Go when the wind isn't trying to push you over the edge - late spring or early autumn tends to be more forgiving than winter.
