St Radegund, Scruton

You'll find this small medieval church tucked away in the village of Scruton, a quiet spot between Northallerton and the North York Moors. St Radegund's sits low and unassuming, but step inside and you're looking at genuine 12th-century stonework - proper old. The church is dedicated to a frankly remarkable saint: a 6th-century Frankish princess who ditched her royal marriage, founded a convent, and spent her later years doing penance. The interior has that hushed, cool feeling you only get in ancient spaces, with original Norman features still intact.
