St. Philip's Church

St. Philip's Church sits quietly in the Oxfordshire countryside, just outside Chipping Norton, and it's the sort of place that rewards a slow walk round rather than a quick peek. The church itself dates back centuries, with the kind of solid stone walls and small windows that make you feel genuinely far from modern life. Inside, you'll find the sort of details that medieval church-spotters live for - carved stonework, old memorials, and that particular smell of old stone and polish that never quite leaves your clothes.

It's worth allowing an hour if you're into local history or church architecture. The surrounding churchyard is genuinely peaceful, proper antidote to the busy high street of Chipping Norton just a few miles away. You won't find teashops or facilities here, so come prepared - that's rather the point.

Historians will get far more out of this than casual tourists. If you're staying at Cotswold Hills Country Park or the Chipping Norton Camping and Caravanning Club Site nearby, it makes for a lovely afternoon walk. Bluewood Lodges or the Moreton-in-Marsh glamping are slightly further out but still within easy reach if you're basing yourselves in the area for a few days.

Bring a notebook if you're into church history - there's plenty to spot and sketch. The real joy here is the quiet, not spectacle.
