St Peters Marlborough, Charitable Trust

The church sits on a quiet street in Marlborough, a proper medieval market town about fifteen minutes from Pewsey. St Peters isn't the biggest or most famous church in Wiltshire - far from it - but it's genuinely worth a look if you're passing through on a camping holiday in the area.

It's a Grade I listed building with real bones, built over several centuries starting in the 12th century. The interior is what gets you: decent medieval work, proper craftsmanship, the sort of thing that reminds you churches were the main event for centuries. There's good stonework and the usual run of memorials if you're into that sort of local history.

Really, this works best for heritage-minded visitors rather than families with young kids - there's not much to keep them occupied beyond ten minutes. Walkers exploring around Marlborough might dip in on the way round town. The walk up from Pewsey is pleasant enough, and several of the local campsites - Totteridge Farm, Hillview Park and Ridgeway Campsite are all under five miles away - make decent bases for exploring the broader area.

Admission is free, naturally, and there's no set opening hours to worry about in the traditional sense, though it's wise to call ahead or check locally when you arrive. Allocate half an hour if you're keen on church architecture, less if you're just passing through. It's one of those places that slots nicely into a broader Wiltshire ramble rather than a destination in itself.
