St Peter's Church, Southrop

The church sits quietly at the heart of Southrop village, a proper Cotswold stone affair that stops you in your tracks the moment you round the corner. St Peter's is one of those places that rewards the wanderer - not the sort of thing you'd plan a day around, but absolutely worth the detour if you're based at Great Farm or Burford Caravan and Motorhome Club nearby.

Inside, the architecture tells the whole story of medieval England. Norman doorways, ornate tomb brasses, and windows that let the light flood through in that particular way only old churches manage. The craftsmanship is what gets you - the detail in the stonework, the careful restoration work that's respected what was there rather than trying to make it shiny and new. It's genuinely moving even if churches aren't usually your thing.

You can wander in and out freely, which is lovely. Twenty minutes is enough to get a proper sense of the place, though if you're the sort who reads every inscription on the floor, you might linger longer. Little Barrington is just down the road, so it pairs neatly with a walk through the surrounding countryside - gentle rolling fields, proper village lanes, the kind of landscape that explains why people fetched up in the Cotswolds in the first place.

Best visited midweek when it's quieter. This is the sort of church that feels intrusive with crowds. Worth the short hop from either campsite if you're interested in local history, but don't expect facilities - there's nowhere nearby for coffee or a bite.
