St Peter's Church Blakeney

The flint-walled church rises above Blakeney village like a beacon, its tower visible for miles across the Norfolk marshes. St Peter's is a proper medieval affair - 14th and 15th century mostly - with a sizeable nave and some genuinely good carved woodwork inside. The real draw is the setting. You walk through the churchyard with views straight out to the salt marshes and the coast beyond, which on a clear day feels almost as spiritual as anything inside the building itself.

It's the kind of place that appeals to walkers more than dedicated church tourists, frankly. If you're doing the coastal path or exploring Blakeney's creeks and boats, St Peter's is a natural stop - five minutes to wander round, grab some quiet, take in the landscape. The interior has character without being overwhelming; nobody's going to spend hours here unless they're really into medieval tracery. Free to get in, naturally.

Timing-wise, visit when the light's right - late afternoon when it hits the marshes properly. Blakeney itself is charming enough for a few hours, with decent crab sandwiches at the quay. If you're staying at Kelling Heath Holiday Park five miles back, this makes an easy afternoon excursion. The walk there gives you the same views as the tower itself, so you're not missing much if you save the trip for when you're passing through anyway.
