Two Norman towers dominate the skyline as you approach this ancient parish church, just outside Hereford. St Peter & St Paul has been watching over the Herefordshire countryside for nearly a thousand years, and it shows - in the best possible way. The stonework tells stories that span centuries, from its 12th-century foundations through to Victorian additions that somehow complement rather than clash.

Inside, the atmosphere is properly peaceful. Medieval carved capitals catch your eye first, followed by some rather fine stained glass that throws coloured light across worn flagstones. History buffs will appreciate the layers of architectural evolution, while anyone seeking a quiet moment will find it here.

Families might struggle to hold young children's attention for long - this is more contemplation than entertainment. But older kids interested in history could spend a good half hour exploring, especially if they're encouraged to spot the different building periods.

The church makes an excellent pitstop if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Hereford Camping and Caravanning Club Site or The Shires Park. It's the sort of place that takes twenty minutes to see properly but gives you something to think about for much longer. Worth combining with a walk around the village or a trip into Hereford itself.
