The church itself sits quiet and substantial in Honiton's town centre, a proper medieval structure that's been there since the 14th century. Inside, the light hits the stone pillars in a way that makes you understand why people bothered building these things so tall. The chancel's got some decent Victorian restoration work if you know where to look, and the windows do their job without being showy about it.

It's genuinely worth thirty minutes if you're passing through Honiton anyway - most people do pop in when they're shopping or having a wander round town. The building tells you something real about how Devon's market towns developed, which beats reading it in a guidebook. Families with older kids won't find it tedious; younger ones might need the lure of an ice cream afterwards to make the visit stick.

No admission charge, naturally. The town's compact enough that you can combine it with proper exploring - the high street's got character still, which isn't guaranteed in market towns these days. If you're staying at Hartridge Springs Spa Glamping just outside town, it's a five-minute drive to park and have a look around. The church opens during daylight hours more or less, though you'd do well ringing ahead if you're making a special trip. It's solid rather than spectacular, but that's often where the real history lives.
