The parish church standing at the heart of Dorchester has been drawing worshippers since Saxon times, though what you see today is mostly medieval - all soaring stone and leaded windows that catch the light properly on a clear morning. Inside, the space feels genuinely lived-in, which is refreshing. There's decent stained glass, some proper monuments worth stopping to read, and the kind of quiet you don't often find in town centres anymore.

It's a working church first, tourist spot second, so you'll need to check if there's a service on before you rock up expecting to wander about uninterrupted. Most people spend thirty minutes here, maybe an hour if you're the type who reads every brass plaque. History buffs will find it worthwhile - the building itself tells you plenty about Dorchester's importance through the centuries.

Families with restless kids should be warned: there's not much to actually do here beyond looking and learning. It's the kind of place that works best as part of a larger Dorchester walk rather than a standalone destination.

If you're camped at Giants Head Caravan & Camping Park just up the road - barely fifteen minutes away - popping into town for an hour makes easy sense. Green Valley Yurts is further out but still within reasonable striking distance for a morning or afternoon visit. The church sits right in the town, so you can combine it with the high street, the museum, or a proper lunch without any messing about.
