St Mary the Virgin Church, Chiddingstone

Inside, the space feels properly lived-in, which is what you want from a village church rather than some polished museum piece.

You'll find decent medieval wall paintings if you know where to look, and the chancel has real character. The whole thing speaks to how these places evolved - bits added, bits patched up, each generation leaving their mark. It's the kind of church where you spend twenty minutes rather than two hours, but those twenty minutes stick with you.

Families won't find it overstimulating, which is actually refreshing.
