St Martin's Church, Great Mongeham

The church sits quietly on the edge of Great Mongeham, a village between Dover and Deal that most people drive straight through without a second glance. St Martin's is exactly what you'd expect from a 12th-century parish church in rural Kent - flint walls, a squat tower, and that particular kind of peaceful that only comes when you're miles from anywhere that matters.

Inside, it's all dark wood and whitewashed plaster, with enough Norman arches and medieval stonework to keep history buffs occupied for twenty minutes or so. It's not a destination in itself; it's the sort of place you stumble across while exploring the Kent coast between Dover and the Downs. Spend fifteen minutes, maybe half an hour if you're genuinely interested in medieval churches, then crack on with your day.
