St Margaret's Church, Wattisfield

The church sits in a quiet corner of Wattisfield, a village that hardly announces itself as you drive through. St Margaret's is what you come for - a medieval parish church with enough character to justify the detour from Diss, just a few miles away.

Inside, it's all high ceilings and cold stone, the sort of place where your footsteps echo properly. The windows are decent enough, and there's a real sense of having stumbled onto something that's been here for centuries without needing to shout about it. Not a cathedral, not particularly grand, but genuinely worth twenty minutes of your time if you're into that sort of thing.

If you're staying at Arthur's Retreat - the motorhome site just up the road - this is a gentle morning walk or a rainy-day option. It won't keep you occupied for long, but that's almost the point. Combine it with a poke around Diss itself, which has a proper market town feel, and you've got a decent half-day sorted. Families with older kids might find it interesting if they're into spotting carved stone or older buildings generally. Young children will get bored within five minutes, to be honest.

Access appears straightforward enough, though the village itself is quiet and signposting from the main road isn't brilliant. Best bet is a postcode search. No admission charge, as far as anyone can tell - it's a working church, so behaviour accordingly.
