The church sits on a quiet lane just outside Salisbury, all grey stone and honest Anglican straightforwardness. St Lawrence's isn't trying to wow you with ornate Victorian theatrics or Norman drama - it's proper village church territory, the kind of building that's been doing its job for centuries without fuss.

Inside, there's decent medieval work if you look for it. The chancel repays a proper examination, and the general atmosphere is one of genuine peace rather than tourist polish. You're looking at maybe twenty minutes here, half an hour if you're genuinely interested in the architectural bones of the place.

This works best for anyone combining Salisbury's attractions - the cathedral is the obvious draw, but St Lawrence's gives you a feel for how the smaller parishes operated alongside it. Families won't find it gripping, to be honest. Church interiors hold most kids' attention for about ninety seconds, though if you're the type to explain medieval roof timbers and why the font sits where it does, you might stretch it a bit longer.

Free entry, as far as I can gather, and it's the sort of place you'll likely find unlocked during daylight hours. If you're camping at nearby Stonehenge Campsite, it makes an easy detour on the drive towards Salisbury proper. Worth a stop if you're doing the rounds, but not worth planning a day around.
