St Lawrence Church, Eastcote

The church sits quietly at the heart of Eastcote village, a modest medieval structure that most people driving through Watford would never notice. St Lawrence has that particular English church character - solid, unpretentious, with enough architectural layers to keep a history enthusiast occupied for a good half hour.

Inside, you get the usual medieval bones: a decent nave, some original stonework, and the kind of stained glass that's more interesting for what it tells you about Victorian tastes than for any great artistic merit. The churchyard's worth a wander too, especially if you're the sort who enjoys reading old gravestones.

This isn't a destination in itself - you're not driving two hours to see St Lawrence. But if you're based at Wyatts Covert or Heritage Park Homes nearby, and you fancy a gentle afternoon stroll around Eastcote, it's a perfectly fine place to anchor a walk. The village has decent bones, the church is accessible, and there's something rather settling about spending twenty minutes inside a building that's been there since the 1300s.

Free entry, obviously. No set visiting hours either - just the usual church etiquette of respect and common sense. Morning light through the windows is nicest.
