St John's Church, Beck Row

The flint church sits quietly on the edge of Beck Row, a village that barely announces itself as you drive through. St John's is the kind of place you stumble upon rather than plan for - which is rather the point. The building itself is Saxon in origin, though what you see today is mostly medieval stonework, all flint and rubble with a sturdy round tower that's unmistakably Norfolk in character.

Inside, the space is genuinely peaceful. There's a proper sense of age here without the crowds you'd get at the cathedral in nearby Brandon. The decorative work is modest but genuine - Victorian restoration rather than over-tinkered - and you can actually hear yourself think, which is increasingly rare. It's not a showstopper attraction, but it works well as a quiet break during a park holiday in the area. Trelander Camping & Caravanning is close enough that you could pop over for twenty minutes without faffing about with the car.

Realistically, you're looking at half an hour maximum if you're thorough, unless you're genuinely into church architecture. Families won't hold their attention here long, but walkers tackling the Cambridgeshire countryside will appreciate the detour. The churchyard is pleasant for a wander too.
